Doing good (I suppose)

And now for a dissertation on why my emotions are mixed.  Michigan is a good place.  I like it here.  Grand Rapids has been good to me.  However, thanks to a sucking job market, I have been without a job for the last 3 months.  I've applied to be a server in restaurants; I applied to be a barista in several coffee shops; I even have my name in at a temp service.  But nothing.  All I want is to make something like a measly $180 a week so that I can pay the bills and put some money into savings so that it is a lot easier to purchase a diamond and a ring.  But right now I'm down to $49 in the bank.

I know man does not live on bread alone.  But it would be nice to buy my own bread, ya know.  It's not so bad sitting around the house doing nothing.  But I have no income, so I think I would rather be working.  After 3 months of sitting on my McDuff I'm ready to do something else.

oh Jeff.... I have been there. the only solution I found for the problem? leaving the place I loved the most. I traded money for lonliness. I feel your pain and hope you can find a better remedy than I did.

Before I got my job I did valet parking for a while. It's good money and the temp service hires you right off the bat. After you sign up your automatically on a email list that sends the valet jobs out. Then its first come first serve. You could also try Calvin jobshop. I got quite a bit off there. Good luck Jeff!

Dude, just move here.
I'll get you a job,
we're hiring right now and you could kick the ass of most of the snot-nose applicants I see dragging their shabby selves in here.
It'd be sweeet.  You could carpool in with me every day, or with a guy I know who lives in crown point.
I know that's not really an option for ya, but if you were here, I could hook you up with a mid 20K job at least.

i could get you a job at Ozinga.

also, try getting a job at a bank.  you don't need any experience to be a teller, looks good on a resume, and banks are always hiring.  people always need places to do things with their money, even if they don't have a lot of it.

Jeff,

Try some different Temp agencies.  Some only cater to a few companies, others service different industries.  I used one for a while that serviced "Industrial" type jobs, but they focused on placing office positions.  I got one pretty easily there making 13/hr which, although isn't much will definitely put you over 180/week.

dawg, I totally feel that (minus the diamond and the ring).  job hunting sucks, and so does trying to get published.  I just want to make some cash so I can keep my ride and eventually move out, but you know that.  I hope it works out for ya, brother.
